Drug Demand Reduction
 
This statutory responsibility of the Agency is to ensure effective sensitization of the general populace on the dangers inherent in drug trafficking and abuse. By this responsibility, the Agency carries out intense educational programmes targeted at changing attitudes and at educating the youths on the consequences of drug abuse and trafficking.
 
Strategies often adopted by the Agency here include drug abuse preventive education, counselling, treatment and rehabilitation of drug dependent persons; community mobilization and provision of support to non-governmental organizations to stem the wave of drug abuse and related criminal activity. Besides, research is often conducted into, identifying the predisposing factors to drug abuse and determining the nature and extent of drug abuse problems in the country. This also enables the evaluation of the outcome and effect of the programmes being designed to reverse the ugly drug trend.
